Trust in a new age

4:24 pm 20-May-2009 by Geoff

Steven Covey [junior] wrote a very interesting and engaging book called "The Speed of Trust" - the one thing that changes everything!

I recall the days when as employee you were expected to just do the right thing and relationships between you and your manager were OK but of little importance. These days leadership and friendship not only go hand-in-glove, but are vital to success in building teams, particularly with generation Y's.

So building trust is the foundation upon which success is built. Steve Covey describes the four cores of credibility in building trust:

Integrity - Being 'congruent' and walking the talk

Intent - Your motives and resulting behaviour based upon mutual benefit

Capabilities - Our abilities and attitudes that inspire confidence

Results - Our performance in getting things done. The power of execution!

So trust is pivotal and is the benchmark of 21st century leadership.
